The Story of This Timepiece
The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Automatic is one of the most recognisable contemporary designs from IWC Schaffhausen, combining the elegant proportions of the Portugieser collection with the functionality of an automatic chronograph.
This example visited the Marcus Tempus watch workshop in Barnet for a relatively small but important repair — replacement of the winding crown.
Although a crown may be a small component, it is one of the principal points of interaction between the wearer and the movement. A worn, damaged or poorly fitting crown can affect everyday operation of the watch and potentially compromise the integrity of the case.
Following replacement, the operation of the crown, winding and time-setting functions were checked before the watch was returned to its owner.
IWC Watch Repairs in Barnet
Not every watch that enters our workshop requires a complete service. Our watchmakers can assess individual faults and, where appropriate, carry out specific repairs including crown and stem replacement, chronograph faults, pressure testing, mechanical servicing and case restoration.
Our on-site workshop is based in Barnet, North London, where we work on IWC and other fine Swiss mechanical watches.
Why This Watch Matters
The Portugieser Chronograph demonstrates an important part of workshop life: sometimes preserving a fine watch doesn't require a complete restoration. The right repair, carried out when it is needed, can be all that is required to return a watch to proper everyday use.
