Jewellery Workshop Care

Resizing with precision and care.

Ring sizing is one of the most common jewellery repairs, but the correct method depends on far more than the number of sizes a ring needs to move. Metal type, band width, setting style, gemstone sensitivity and previous repairs can all affect what is safe.

We assess the whole ring before advising whether it can be enlarged or reduced, and whether additional work may be needed to protect the setting or restore the finish afterwards.

Extra care is taken with diamond rings, coloured gemstone rings, antique rings and rings with delicate or worn settings.

Ring Enlargement

Increasing ring size by stretching where appropriate or by carefully adding matching precious metal when required.

Ring Reduction

Reducing ring size while maintaining a balanced profile, comfortable fit and secure setting.

Stone-Set Rings

Careful resizing for diamond, gemstone and engagement rings with attention to claws, shoulders and setting tension.

Vintage Rings

Sympathetic resizing for antique and inherited jewellery with preservation of original character wherever possible.

Our Process

How Ring Resizing Works

01

Assessment

We inspect the ring design, metal, setting style, gemstones and existing wear before recommending work.

02

Measuring

We confirm the required ring size and discuss comfort, fit and the safest adjustment.

03

Resizing

The ring is enlarged or reduced using the most appropriate workshop method for its construction.

04

Finishing & Checks

The ring is cleaned, refinished where appropriate and checked for shape, setting security and comfort before collection.

Before We Resize

Some rings need a little more consideration.

Full-eternity rings, heavily stone-set bands, very wide rings and pieces with heat-sensitive gemstones can require a different approach. In some cases, resizing may be limited or an alternative solution may be more appropriate.

If a setting is worn, claws are thin or a gemstone is loose, we will explain this before work begins so the ring can be resized safely rather than simply made to fit.

Full-Eternity Rings May have limited resizing options depending on construction.
Heat-Sensitive Gemstones Require suitable protection or an alternative repair method.
Worn Settings Claws and settings are checked before resizing where relevant.
Wide Bands Comfort and fitting can differ from narrow rings, so sizing is assessed carefully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ring Sizing FAQs

Can you make my ring bigger?

In many cases, yes. The safest method depends on the metal, ring design, setting style and how many sizes the ring needs to increase.

Can you make my ring smaller?

Yes, subject to assessment. We reduce suitable rings while maintaining shape, comfort and setting security.

Can you resize an engagement ring?

Yes. We regularly resize engagement rings and assess the setting, shoulders, claws and centre stone before work begins.

Can you resize a ring with gemstones?

Often, yes. Gemstone type and setting style are important because some stones are more sensitive to heat or pressure than others.

Can you resize a vintage or antique ring?

Yes, subject to condition. We take a sympathetic approach and aim to preserve original character wherever possible.

Can all rings be resized?

No. Full-eternity rings, heavily stone-set bands and certain designs may have limited resizing options. We will explain the safest alternatives after inspection.

Will my ring be polished after resizing?

The resized area is finished as part of the repair. Broader polishing or restoration can be discussed separately depending on the condition of the ring and your preference.
