Included Where Appropriate
Complimentary Water-Resistance Test
Where suitable, we carry out a complimentary water-resistance test following your battery replacement.
This gives us an opportunity to identify whether the case continues to provide the protection expected from the watch.
If the watch does not pass the test, we will explain the result and advise whether seals, gaskets or further workshop attention may be required.
No additional work is carried out without your approval.

If the watch does not pass, our workshop will advise you before further work is considered.
A Useful Workshop Record
We Date Your Battery Replacement
When we replace a watch battery, we place a small dated service sticker inside the case back.
When the watch returns to our workshop in the future, this provides a useful record of when we last replaced the battery.
It can also help us identify whether a watch is consuming batteries unusually quickly and whether the movement may require further investigation.
“A battery replacement is a small job, but keeping a record helps us understand what the watch is doing over time.”
Battery Life
How Long Should a Watch Battery Last?
Most quartz watch batteries will typically last around two to three years, although the actual life can vary considerably from one watch to another.
Movement Type
Different quartz calibres have different power requirements and battery capacities.
Age & Condition
An ageing or inefficient movement may consume considerably more power than it did when new.
Additional Functions
Chronographs, alarms, illumination and other functions can affect battery consumption.
Battery Size
Battery size, capacity and the design of the movement all influence expected battery life.
A battery that does not last as long as expected is not necessarily faulty. If a watch repeatedly exhausts batteries unusually quickly, our workshop may recommend testing the movement for excessive current consumption.
Protecting Your Watch
Watch Seals Do Not Last Forever
Rubber gaskets and seals help protect a watch from moisture, but they naturally deteriorate as they age.
Heat, perspiration, cosmetics, chemicals and general wear can all affect their condition.
A watch that was water-resistant when new should therefore not be assumed to remain water-resistant indefinitely.
Before Swimming
If you regularly swim or expose your watch to water, periodic water-resistance testing is recommended.
A pressure test checks the condition of the sealed case without relying solely on how the seals appear visually.
When a Battery Is Not the Answer
Sometimes a Quartz Watch Needs More
If a fresh battery does not restore normal operation, the problem may lie elsewhere in the movement.
Moisture damage, worn mechanical components, damaged coils, electronic faults or excessive current consumption can all prevent a quartz watch from functioning correctly.
In these cases we can advise whether the watch should be assessed for a full quartz service or repair.
Workshop Advice
Repeated Battery Changes?
If your watch is exhausting batteries far more quickly than expected, repeatedly fitting another battery may not solve the underlying problem.
Our workshop can assess the movement and advise what is actually required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Watch Battery Questions
How much is a watch battery replacement?
Battery replacement starts from £15. Selected Swiss and premium watches are £20, while selected luxury Swiss watches are £25.
Is water-resistance testing included?
Yes. Where appropriate, a complimentary water-resistance test is included following the battery replacement.
How long should my watch battery last?
Around two to three years is common, although movement type, condition, battery size and additional functions can all affect battery life.
Why did my previous battery not last very long?
Short battery life can sometimes indicate excessive power consumption or deterioration within the quartz movement rather than a faulty battery.
Do watch seals need replacing?
Watch seals deteriorate naturally with age. If a watch fails its water-resistance test, we can advise whether further seal or gasket work should be considered.
Do you keep a record of the battery change?
We place a small dated service sticker inside the case back when we replace the battery, providing a useful record for future workshop visits.
