About Us
“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let’s begin.”
— MOTHER THERESA
1982-1984
Jeremy Gane started work in his flat and soon moved to Camden Lock in 1984. The shop was located above the sweet shop at 47a Stairway Studios, Commercial Place, Camden Lock, and it was trading under A1 Clock and Watch Workshop.
1984
First article about the shop in the Camden New Journal - March 29, 1984.
1986
First advert in a national newspaper, The Financial Times, alongside other retailers including the famous Van Cleef and Cartier.
In 1990, the shop name was changed to Antique & Modern and moved to 266 East Barnet Road. The article in the Financial Times describes how all the repairs are done on a site by Jeremy and his three-man team.
Mark joined the shop as a watchmaker in 1993, and Vanessa 6 months later. In 2000, Mark and Vanessa bought the business from Jeremy Gane.
In 2015, we became an authorised Omega Service Centre and a couple of years later, Tag Heuer.
In November 2019, we moved to 27 Church Hill Rd to the new premises.
In April 2024, Vanessa sadly passed away.
In 2025, we decided to start upgrading our shop floor and adjust the name to Marcus Tempus Antique & Modern. "Mark time" was a nickname Mark was given by his father. The new name truly shows our love for antique clocks and modern watches. It works perfectly with timeless antique jewellery and modern bespoke pieces with incredible gemstones.
We believe that a new, modern image with a traditional workshop suits us best. The change is necessary for progress. We're constantly improving our workshops to provide the best watch, clock and jewellery service. We took multiple new jewellery, watch and even clock and accessories brands over the last year. We're expanding online, but we still have your friendly, high street local shop.
