A charming 8-day Black Forest musical cuckoo clock, bringing together traditional German clockmaking with a wonderfully detailed scene of rural Alpine life.
The hand-finished wooden chalet features a deeply pitched shingle roof, carved balconies, decorative windows and woodland details. Across the lower scene, a moving waterwheel sits alongside a traditional farm setting populated with horses, dogs and a beautifully modelled farm girl with her animals.
Above the dial, traditionally dressed dancing couples form part of the clock's musical display, while the cuckoo emerges from its doorway to announce the hour.
At its heart is a traditional 8-day mechanical movement, requiring winding approximately once a week. Three pine-cone weights and hanging chains complete the classic Black Forest appearance.
The musical mechanism plays two melodies, while the moving figures and waterwheel transform the clock into a miniature piece of mechanical theatre.
An automatic night shut-off allows the cuckoo and musical functions to be silenced overnight.
At approximately 46 cm / 18 inches, this is a slightly more compact model than some of our grand Black Forest clocks, while retaining the craftsmanship, movement and nostalgic detail that make these traditional cuckoo clocks so distinctive.
