About This Timepiece

An icon of vintage chronograph design, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 6263 is regarded as one of the defining sports watches ever produced. Introduced during the 1970s, the reference combines a robust stainless steel Oyster case with a black acrylic tachymeter bezel and Rolex's legendary manually wound chronograph movement.

This example features the sought-after "Big Red" dial, named after the bold red Daytona script positioned above the lower chronograph register. The striking contrast between the silver dial, black subsidiary dials and black bezel creates one of the most recognisable aesthetics in vintage watch collecting.

Produced during the same celebrated era as the famous Paul Newman Daytonas, the Ref. 6263 has become one of the most desirable vintage Rolex references in its own right. Its timeless proportions, exceptional craftsmanship and enduring motorsport heritage continue to make it a cornerstone of serious collections.

This watch forms part of the Marcus Tempus Workshop Archive, documenting notable timepieces that have passed through our workshop. Archive watches may have been serviced, restored or returned to their owners and are preserved to showcase the remarkable watches entrusted to our care.
